The motto of the Old Guildhall Museum in Looe is “Step through the door, step back in time”, now visitors can step back with the help of the new photographic collection, the Looe Archive. Thanks to the kindness of several notable Looe residents, we have been given access to 3 major collections which have been scanned, copied and put into folders in the museum. The images cover the growth of East & West Looe since the 1870s, together with ships, fishing boats and photographs of people from the town.
The museum’s own collection has been included and we currently have well over 400 photos. The Looe Archive will remain in Looe.
We hope that residents, old & new, plus visitors will enjoy looking at the photos, we are also permitted to offer copies for sale to boost museum funds & help to keep it open. Anyone who would like to help us add to the Archive by letting us scan some of their pictures would be very welcome.
